How to stay calm when your baby cries?

Parenting a newborn is hard

During those early months, dealing with all the crying and noise can be stressful. Especially if you're operating without much sleep

Even the most calm and patient parents get stressed when their baby cries. It's just how our brains are wired. If you're lucky, they stop after a while and you can get some much-needed rest.

But what do you do if the crying doesn't stop?

But what do you do if the crying doesn't stop?

1. Take a break

Put your baby in a safe place and give yourself a few minutes. Have something to eat, take a shower, or do something creative you enjoy to recharge. Taking a short break can help you feel refreshed and better equipped to handle the situation.

2. Practice breathing

2. Practice breathing

You probably won't realise, but when we're panicked or fearful, our breathing is often shallow. Take slow, deep breaths in through your nose and out your mouth. It helps soothe the nervous system, calming you out of that anxious fight or flight state.

3. Lean on friends or family

Try calling a friend or family member for support. Sometimes, taking off steam and resetting your brain helps. Don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it.

4. Practice self-care

4. Practice self-care

You can't help others if you don't help yourself, so practicing self-care regularly is a great way to manage your stress. Self-care means different things to different people, but activities like taking a hot bath, exercising, or watching a favorite movie can help.

5. Try noise-reducing earplugs

The sound of a baby crying loudly can reach 120 dB, close to the noise intensity of a departing plane. By filtering noise and keeping speech clear, our earplugs help you show up as a calm, actively engaged parent when it counts.
